Macquarie leads in broker usage, turnaround time, and broker and credit assessor experience
The latest Broker Pulse: Residential Lending report by Agile Market Intelligence reveals insights from our monthly survey of Australia’s mortgage brokers and highlights the key lender movements across usage, service, loan processing times, and broker experience throughout July 2026.
Broker flows
Macquarie dominates broker usage
Macquarie received applications from 48 per cent of broker respondents in July 2026, ahead of ANZ at 44 per cent, CBA at 35 per cent and Westpac at 29 per cent.
Among non-major banks, Bankwest received applications from 20 per cent of broker respondents and ING from 19 per cent.
Firstmac led non-bank usage at 8 per cent, followed by Pepper Money and Liberty Financial at 7 per cent each.

Decision drivers
Client circumstances as primary driving factors for lenders
Client circumstances remained the leading reason brokers recommended major banks and non-bank lenders.
Among brokers recommending major banks, 72 per cent cited client circumstances, down 1 percentage point from June. Product pricing was the second-most cited reason, at 39 per cent.
Among brokers recommending non-bank lenders, 87 per cent cited client circumstances, up 5 percentage points. Product pricing was cited by 13 per cent of brokers as the second-most common reason.
Product pricing was the leading reason for recommending non-major banks, cited by 64 per cent of relevant respondents, up 2 percentage points. Client circumstances ranked second at 52 per cent, down 3 percentage points.

Turnaround times
Lenders Macquarie, ubank, and Connective Home Loans lead with the shortest turnaround time
Large ADIs
Macquarie leads with the shortest turnaround time of 1.7 business days. This mid-tier bank is followed by Bankwest, with an average turnaround time of 2.9 business days. CBA has the fastest turnaround among the major banks, taking an average of 3.7 business days.

Small ADIs
ubank recorded the shortest average turnaround among small ADIs, at 2.7 business days, followed by P&N Bank at 2.8 business days and MyState at 3.3 business days.
People’s First Bank recorded the longest average turnaround in the cohort, at 11.6 business days.

Non-ADIs
Connective Home Loans recorded the shortest average turnaround among non-ADIs at 3.4 business days. RedZed followed at 4.3 business days, while First Federal averaged 5.2 business days and Firstmac 5.6 business days.

Broker experience
Macquarie, P&N Bank, and AFG Home Loans lead with highest broker satisfaction experience
Large ADIs
Macquarie received the highest overall broker-experience rating among large ADIs at 96 per cent. Bankwest recorded 91 per cent and ING 89 per cent, followed by Westpac and NAB at 88 per cent each.

Small ADIs
P&N occupies the top spot among small ADIs with a satisfaction rating of 96 per cent. Great Southern Bank trails behind with a score of 91 per cent. Rounding out the rest of the top spots are HSBC and MyState with a score of 90 per cent.

Non-ADIs
AFG Home Loans received the highest overall broker-experience rating among non-ADIs at 85 per cent. Connective Home Loans recorded 84 per cent and Bluestone Home Loans 81 per cent.

Broker insights on BDMs and credit teams
Auswide Bank, HSBC, and P&N Bank dominate in both BDM and credit teams experience
Experience with BDMs
Bendigo Bank received a 100 per cent business development manager (BDM) experience rating among commonly used ADIs. Bankwest recorded 95 per cent and Macquarie 94 per cent. Westpac led the major banks at 79 per cent.
Among less commonly used ADIs, Auswide Bank, HSBC, P&N Bank and ubank each received a 100 per cent BDM experience rating.
La Trobe Financial led commonly used non-ADIs at 92 per cent, followed by Pepper Money at 87 per cent and Connective Home Loans at 86 per cent.

Experience with credit assessors
Macquarie received the highest credit-assessor experience rating among commonly used ADIs, at 95 per cent. Bankwest recorded 91 per cent, while Westpac and ME Bank each received 88 per cent.
Among less commonly used ADIs, Auswide Bank, Beyond Bank, HSBC and P&N Bank each received a 100 per cent credit-assessor experience rating.
AFG Home Loans and Connective Home Loans each received a 100 per cent rating among commonly used non-ADIs. La Trobe Financial followed at 92 per cent.

This Broker Pulse survey gathered responses from 353 residential brokers, collected between the 1st and 17th of August 2026. Brokers were asked to share their experiences with the lenders they worked with throughout July, rating them across turnaround time, credit assessment, BDM interactions, and the overall broker journey.
